Title: Life as a White-skin Aborigine
Author: 101.3FM
Subtitle: Peter Mulcahy and Lloyd Hornsby talk about their life and art
Summary: If you saw Lloyd Hornsby and Peter Mulcahy in a supermarket queue - if you noticed them consciously at all - you'd take them to be Italians, Greeks, Spaniards or some such southern Europeans. Well, they're Aborigines and well known painters with distinctive styles of their own. Lloyd, 61, from Murramba Downs, near Brisbane, only found out his Aboriginal descent half a dozen years ago and his light colour has caused him anguish with whites and Aborigines. Peter, 40, from Kin Kin in the Noosa hinterland, says he'd had both nurturing and teaching from his closest elder since he was a very young man. Peter recalls several elders telling him, It's you milkies that will help bring us back. Both painters are activists in their communities. They talked about their lives as white skin Aborigines and how that flows into their paintings with Diet Simon on All Over the Place on Wednesday 7 January. It would help you greatly understand what is said about the paintings if you look them up on the two websites, www.yuinart.com for Lloyd Hornsby and www.aboriginalaustralianart.com for Peter Mulcahy

Title: A novel by a local and men in distress
Author: 101.3FM
Subtitle: Four men talked about “a novel for blokes” and how men in distress can help each other on Diet Simon’s “All Over the Place” on 26 November.
Summary: An American and two Aussies travelling in the top end of Burma's wild jungle country make a horrifying discovery which sends them fleeing for their lives down the mighty Irrawaddy River seeking diplomatic refuge in Rangoon. The story follows their terrifying ordeal as they are pursued down the river. That’s the bare bones of the novel, “The Irrawaddy – River of Evil”, fresh in bookshops along the Sunshine Coast and soon across Australia. It’s by Peter Browne, one of our presenters and an Australian army officer for more than 20 years who worked in several Asian countries. Also around the studio table that evening were two Coast men, Adam Cashmore-Brooke of Yandina and Rick Hansen of Marcoola, who’re restarting the “Dads in Distress” group begun in our area by Gerry Gallop which collapsed when government funding was stopped. There was some gripping talk about mateship in the army and mateship and mutual support among men in general. Text written by the men & family centre at Lismore, NSW, encapsulated what the two men communicated that evening: “Sometimes a man can’t see the damage done by his aggressive or depressed behaviour. Sometimes a man doesn’t know why all that defined him no longer serves. Sometimes a man doesn’t know how to change. Sometimes mentoring is just a phone call away. Dads in Distress can turn those sometimes, into good times. Phone 074937152 or 0411709184.”

Title: Worrying Return to Farm in Africa

Subtitle: A return to Zambia
Summary: Suzanna Fisher grew up on a farm in Zambia, until she was 17. Four out of five of the 12 million Zambians live on the equivalent of less than a US dollar per day. The farm, which has been white-owned for 75 years, may be sold, which is a crushing worry for the 70 Africans whose living depends on it. Suzanna is trying to stop that happening. She's just returned from a three-month visit to the area. Diet Simon talked to her on his show, "All Over the Place", on 17 September.
