FBi 94.5 Sydney Australia
DAPPLED CITIES – Birds
Fresh from the stage of The Save FBi fundraiser shows we have an unreleased Dappled Cities song called Birds. A tribute to influential krautrock band Neu who featured 2 original members of Kraftwerk in the 1970’s. A recent compilation called Brand Neu featured tracks from LCD Soundsystem, Foals, Fujiya and Miyagi, Cornelius and even Oasis, alongside some other great contemporary bands who all cite Neu as an influence. If you want a history lesson from a band that sounds as good today as when they started, check out Neu’s back catalogue. This track from Dappled Cities didn’t end up on the CD, but is well worth a listen. Dappled cities have just dropped album number three called Zounds which they recorded between 4 studios in Sydney and New York, the album was co produced with Chris Coady who has previously engineered TV on the Radio’s hit album “Dear Science” along side many others. Dappled Cities are really busy launching the album, on the road with Philadelphia Grand Jury. Here is Dappled Cities with their tribute to Neu a track titled Birds.

Old Men of Moss Mountain – Cabin Fever
That was 5 lads from Sydney, that have been experimenting with the bizarre side of hip- hop for the past 5 years, they are called Old Men Of Moss Mountain and they recently released the Swamp EP, which is now available for download for free on their myspace page. In 2009 they are putting their production hat on and working on their Debut album to be released later this year. The guys are currently in rehearsals putting together a live show. That was Old Men of Moss Mountain and their song Cabin Fever from the Swamp EP.

The Black Ryder - Burn and Fade
The Black Ryder is a duo comprising Aimee and Scott, two former members of The Morning After Girls in their brand new project. Burn & Fade is the first taste of what’s to come from their debut album ‘Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride’. The track is not for sale and is only available through free download here on the Beforecast. The band are headlining their own shows in Sydney & Melbourne and are doing some support for like minded US bands the Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Warlocks. Black Ryder’s album is out October 2009 but here is their new song Burn and Fade.

Le Kingste – The Way The World Turns
That was Le Kingste made up of 3 brothers Paul, Caleb, and Arthur along side one honorary brother Jack. Originally from Tamworth, they then moved to Newcastle and now firmly based in Sydney. They’re currently unsigned and have independently released their debut self titled e.p. In 2009 they also won the NSW Garage 2 V band competition, which saw them win a spot opening at the V Festival. Le Kingste are currently writing material for their debut album which is being recorded later this year and is due for release early in 2010. Album is tentatively title 'Deep Sea Diver' but that is a bit of and exclusive for you on the Beforecast. More to come from Le Kingste and their debut album in 2010, but until then that was “The Way The World Turns” brand new single from those boys.

Belles Will Ring/ Cloud Control - Al & Liam (Live medley) EXCLUSIVE
And the final offering for this month’s Beforecast is an exclusive live recording from the Fbi studios. A medley from Liam Judson from Belles Will Ring and Alastair Wright from Cloud control. An exclusive live performance that we captured here at FBi in the lead up to the very successful and special FBi fundraiser hosted by Ivy League records, called A League of Their Own. Ivy League records and all their artists getting together to play a gig at the Gaelic Club to help raise some money for FBi it was a fantastic night and in the lead up we had these guys on air playing this song. Both bands are planning on spending the rest of 2009 getting busy writing new material for new albums both due in 2010. Been hosting parties all around the city everything from soul, dub step and disco nights. The Duos first release together got the attention of BBC Radio 1 announcer and influential club DJ Giles Peterson. Giles called Steve Spacek the voice of modern soul. Steve has had a long career, in which he has worked with the likes of J Dilla, Slum Village, Mos Def, and Common, just to name a few. ARIA nominated artist and local boy Katalyst produces the catchy danceable and futuristic beats on this project. This is the first singe from Space Invadas, it’s called Original, it’s from their new album called Soul Fly, which will be out later this year. The track features MCs Buff 1 from Detroit and RuCL from Melbourne. Apparently the boys let us know that it is inspired by the idea of striving for originality in what you create. Heres Space Invadas and Original.

ZEAHORSE – Wrong
That was a demo from a new Sydney band called Zeahorse, they were a three piece adding a fourth member on bass very recently. They have been tearing the roof off their live shows with their screamy, grungy, garagy, punk sound and at the moment gearing up for their first tour of Melbourne. Then they will be heading back to Sydney for a month long residency every Wednesday night during September at the Hopetoun Hotel in Surry Hills a new initiative at the Hopetoun called 4 bands, 4 weeks, 4 free, 4 you. Zeahorse are looking to record a brand new EP later in the year but until that comes around, that was Zeahorse and a demo called Wrong.

BLACK CAB - Lost and Falling – (EXCLUSIVE)
Coming up next were going to visit our southern cousins in Melbourne. Black Cab is comprised of two key members, singer and producer Andrew Coates and guitarist James Lee. The lads are in the process of recording album number 3, which will be called “Call Sings” when it’s out later this year on Laughing Outlaw Records, which is a Sydney based independent label. The first single form will be called “Rescue”, going be launched in mid July. Lost Loves which was the track we just heard is a sneak peak at their debut album called “We Are The Lost Loves” due to be released Winter 2009. Their music could be described as warped pop, they have being playing a bunch of shows in Melbourne over the last month or so and we are hoping for much, much more from Young Heretics including hopefully a Sydney visit very soon. That was a demo from Young Heretics called Lost Loves.

DAMN ARMS - Destination (Mitzi Remix)
The final offering comes in the shape of Damn Arms their a Melbourne band who FBi listeners will be well familiar with. For the uninitiated, Damn Arms used to be a four piece based in Melbourne, recently shedding a couple of members to streamline the outfit and also update their sound. Their recent single Destination was their first foray into the Yacht House sound, it was also the subject of a remix competition organise by their label Bang Gang 12 inches in association with Spank records and excellent record store here in Sydney. The competition was won by Jad Lee and Dominiqe Bird, going under the name Mitzi, from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. In their short career they’ve already toured with School of Seven Bells and Temper Trap as well as rocking festivals like Playground Weekender and the Laneway Festival. They are currently working on their debut album, but here is a track off the aforementioned EP.

INFUSION – So Soon
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Melbourne based trio, INFUSION. Since releasing their second album Six Feet Above Yesterday in 2004, the band have been extremely busy. They have taken home two ARIA awards and circled the globe a number of times, playing some of the biggest festivals such as Coachella, Roskilde, Glastonbury, Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass amongst others. They’ve also played alongside icons like David Bowie, N.E.R.D, Basement Jaxx and New Order. Most of the past two years has been spent in the studio working on their highly anticipated new album, All Night Sun Light. Self-produced and self-released on their own imprint, Futuresque, here is a sneaky first taste of the album ahead of it’s release in June 2009.

PARADES – Hunters
This Sydney based five piece first came to our attention when they walked in one of our Music Open Days with a bunch of demos in tow. We instantly shared their tracks on the air, all of which the band crafted in their makeshift studio, a garage in Sydney's Northwest. They continue to work in their home studio, the latest offering being their debut EP. On the Beforecast this month we have the second single off the EP.

ROYAL HEADACHE – Surprise
Formed at the tail end of 2008, this Sydney Four-piece spend their time jamming in their boatshed rehearsal space in Sydney’s western suburbs. They’ve only played a handful of shows so far and are looking to put out a 7" some time this year. For the moment their DIY recording approach is to set up a dictaphone in the corner of the jam room. Here’s the first results, a track called Surprise off their demo.

TEMPER TRAP - Science of Fear (HERVE remix) – EXCLUSIVE
Melbourne born, now London based fourtet TEMPER TRAP caused quite the stir with Sweet Disposition, the first track from their forthcoming debut album, Conditions. Produced by Jim Abbiss who is responsible for records by UNKLE, Arctic Monkeys and Adele, the lads were named as one of only fifteen rising stars of 2009 by the BBC.

Conditions is due out in June 2009. Exclusively to the Beforecast this month is a remix of the latest single, Science of Fear by HERVE.
